Katharina Emmerich received her bachelor's degree in applied cognitive and media science from the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2010 and her master's degree in applied cognitive and media science at the same institution in 2012. Till 2020, she worked at the chair of Entertainment Computing in Duisburg and successfully defended her dissertation on "Investigating the Social Player Experience: Social Effects in Digital Games" in 2019, graduating as Dr.-Ing.
Katharina's work in the field of HCI is focused on the design and user experience of digital games and playful applications. Her research includes the investigation of social-psychological effects and social interaction in different game scenarios, as well as the evaluation of social consequences. She investigate the complex concept of player experience by conducting empirical studies to unveil cause-and-effect relationships of game elements and their contribution to the game experience with a special focus on social aspects of the setting.
